Daily Om: A Year of Writing to Uncover the Authentic Self

Well over a year ago, at the end of 2023, I came back to a facebook post I’d seen about journalling with prompts as part of a creative writing technique. I’d seen it before, or similar, but dismissed it as another facebook ad, but then was drawn back and decided to commit to it. Or at least, that was my intention. I committed financially by buying the programme, and told myself I’d absolutely definitely do it and it wouldn’t be like other things I’d bought through Wowcher and the like where I’d maybe start them, or maybe not, and certainly never finish them. This one, I told myself, was one I’d definitely do.

Needless to say, the weekly prompts started coming through and of course, I put them to one side in my emails and quickly put them out of my mind. I didn’t get beyond reading the very first introductory blurb. I never had enough time, or energy, or motivation, yada yada yada.

Fast forward a year and I started thinking about it again, wondering if I still had access to the programme and if it was still something I might do. I did, and maybe, just maybe, I might. I mean, I was looking for an ‘in’ to unleash my creative side and writing has always been something I’ve come back to on a personal level. So, after further procrastination and alongside some significant life changes, I opened it up. I’d just set this blog site up as a bit of an experiment to see how it all worked but still struggled to find the time, the energy, and the motivation to work at it regularly, alongside all the self-doubt about it all, and then thought, why not use the blog site to publish my workings through the Daily Om programme? No one will be interested, I thought, but then again, what did I have to lose? And who knows, it might actually give me some sort of framework on which to hang further self and worldly explorations. This is my mutterings and musings outlet, after all.

So, without further ado – actually much further ado as procrastination and forgetfulness are still very much a thing – I shall start posting my responses to the prompts the course throws at me each week. They won’t necessarily be weekly shares or even anything of interest, but they will be something, and something is generally better than nothing, I think, maybe.
